Self Defense

Choosing products for self-defense

There are quite a few different types of products available for self-defense. This article will describe some of these products, and give you enough information to choose the product(s) that are right for you.

One category of self-defense weapons includes mace and pepper sprays. These devices use a variable combination of OC Pepper and CN Tear Gas. OC Pepper causes the eyes to close and causes severe choking and coughing. CN Tear Gas causes burning of the eyes, enough to cause tears, a burning sensation to the face, and causes the attacker to become disoriented. Neither of these substances causes permanent damage, but allows you time to flee your attacker.

Most self-defense mace or pepper sprays are quite small, concealable and easy to activate. Some are small enough to fit on a key chain. This category of self-defense weapon is one of the first items you should choose – you should have mace or pepper spray if you have nothing else.

Bear spray is another type of self-defense device. Using an intense form of pepper spray, bear sprays were initially designed for repelling bears in areas where they are prevalent. If you plan to camp in any of the national forests, consider getting some bear spray.

Another category of self-defense devices includes stun guns and tasers. Both are electroshock weapons that temporarily incapacitate your attacker by issuing an electrical charge that interferes with the bodies’ nervous system. Stun guns are designed to be used up close attacker in order to issue the electroshock. Stun guns are available in a large variety of sizes and shapes. Some are large and obvious, designed for a show of force. Others are small and easily concealable. You can even get a stun gun disguised as a cell phone, a flashlight, or an umbrella.

Tasers are electroshock self-defense weapons that can be used from a distance of up to fifteen feet from your attacker. They use a compressed nitrogen charge to propel a projectile that contains a set of electrodes. The projectile remains attached to the taser gun via a set of small, thin wires. They deliver an electroshock for a period of 30 seconds even if dropped, allowing you time to flee your attacker. Tasers also have a built-in set of electrodes that allow them to be used up close as a stun gun.

Tasers are used by police and military worldwide. But there are currently two models available to consumers for use as self-defense weapons. One model is the M18 Advanced Taser. This model is shaped like a handgun, and comes with an optional laser sight for better targeting. The Taser C2 model is smaller and has a sleek, ergonomic design. Targeted mainly to women, it is available in a variety of colors including pink. The Taser C2 also has an available optional laser sight.
